This holy season of Lent is traditionally, in my religious upbringing, a time of penitence. I was raised to forego certain material pleasures, e.g. candy, in order to evidence a spirit of penance. While I gladly denied myself these materials things, my own experience is that the true spirit of the practice did not impact my emotional and spiritual life to any measurable degree. It was, through no intention on my part, a primarily external practice without self-perceived internal effects. What the good Lord thought, or expected, I do not know.
Today, again I wonder about how to most effectively evidence a willingness to practice penance during this Lenten season. I would love to hear how others evidence this in their lives.

Welcome to the Journey
This blog is an attempt to journey with others to find the way from the desert to the source of Life. It is not intended to be an intellectual exercise, but a way to live in and through that Spirit in daily life. My hope is to hear from others who are searching, wanting to experience the presence of the Spirit in everyday thoughts and actions. My prayer is that the Spirit of Life will guide and be present to assist those of us who are searching.
